Formed when moonlight reflects off ice crystals high up in the atmosphere, a luna halo is the moon's version of a rainbow. It spans 45 degrees of sky and requires a wide angle lens to fit it all in with room at the edges of the frame for it to breathe. No doubt they can be recorded hand held with high ISO settings and a fast lens, but here I chose to take a different route using a tripod for a 6 second exposure at F/8 and an ISO of 400. Surprisingly, this is the only luna halo I have ever seen !
